Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek Highlights

  • splendid floras like rhododendron, pine, magnolia, oak woodlands, and several others throughout the trek.
  • Magnificent views of Dhaulagiri (8167 meters), Annapurna (8091 meters), Manaslu (8156 meters), Machhapuchre, and Mardi Himal
  • A pristine trek with fewer crowds
  • The lifestyle, customs, rituals, and traditions of the local Magar and Gurung people are far from modern.
  • rich, varying landscapes incorporating mountain views, verdant forests, amazing sunsets, and what not.
  • a short and budget-friendly trek suitable for solo as well as group trekkers.

The Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek is a moderately difficult trek that is suitable for all levels of trekkers, from novice to intermediate to experienced. You will be captivated by waterfalls, beautiful lakes, stunning views of many mountain peaks, and the remote lifestyle of the Gurung and Magar communities during this trek. Favorable for solo as well as group trekkers, this trek never gets boring for a moment and provides you the break you want and need.

Our 8-day Mardi Himal Base Camp trek route from Pokhara begins as we drive from Pokhara for about 1 hour to arrive at Kanda through Sarangkot or Phedi. On the fifth day of this Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek (4,500 m.), we ascend from High Camp to Mardi Himal Base Camp at the altitude of 4500 meters. After two hours of strenuous, steep climbing, the views of Annapurna I, Annapurna III, and Gangapurna from here are simply magnetic.

Get ready to be fascinated by the astounding sunrise and sunset views on this calm and unspoiled trek in the Annapurna region that was discovered back in 2012 and is gaining popularity each day. However, the number of people on this trek is significantly less than on the more popular and crowded treks in the Annapurna Sanctuary, like Ghorepani Poon Hill Sunrise Trek and Annapurna Base Camp Trek, making it an ideal choice for solitude-seeking trekkers.

Difficulty based on altitude and distance coverage

The moderately categorized Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek can be perceived differently by different individuals. The highest point of Mardi Himal is Mardi Himal Base Camp, at an altitude of 4500 meters. The total distance of this trek is 49 kilometers, and you would be walking an average of 6 kilometers a day.

For people who are not at all used to walking on uneven surfaces for such long hours, this trek can be hard-hitting. So, we highly recommend that you get used to some sort of basic exercise and maintain physical fitness.

Weather is another difficulty barrier for Mardi Himal Base Camp Trekking, as weather can be unpredictable at such heights. It will help a lot if you keep tabs on the weather history and forecast for the Mardi Himal Trek so that the odds are in your favor.

Altitude sickness in the Mardi Himal Trek is not as big of an issue as it is in other high-altitude treks in the Everest region or Kanchenjunga region. However, this doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen at all, so be careful and watch out for those cruel altitude sickness symptoms.

Mardi Himal Base Camp trekking experience in different seasons

The best time for the Mardi Himal Trek depends on the individual. The four seasons in Nepal provide people with different trekking experiences in each season. The weather is one of the most important factors that influences the trekking experience, and it is highly affected by the altitude.

March through May is the spring season on the Mardi Himal Trek.

The favorable weather and risk-free trekking trails, blushing alongside thriving rhododendron and other wildflowers, plus the stunning mountain views, make spring one of the best times for the Mardi Himal Base CampTrek. The trekking trails will be more alluring and pleasant with the fragrance of blossoming flowers.

The temperature and weather of the Mardi Himal Trek during Spring are pleasant, with warm days where the temperature might hike up to 20 degrees centigrade. The early mornings, evenings, and nights can get cold, but they are not unbearable.

The hotels and lodges might get preoccupied as many people opt for trekking during this time of year for a worthy trekking experience.

However, the total distance traveled for proper hiking on days 6 and a half is 75 kilometers of proper hiking for an average of 6-7 hours a day. The overall distance covered for the 6 and a half days of hiking was 75 kilometers, which required an average of 5-6 hours per day of hiking.

Summer season in Mardi Himal Trek—June to early September

The heavy rainfalls during the summer and monsoon seasons result in slippery trekking routes, making them more accident-prone. Making matters worse, the heavy rain and clouds might cause poor visibility, further degrading your trekking experience.

With rainfall comes the leech problem. Even though the rainfall is lighter at higher altitudes, the leeches in the forest and the muddy trails make this one of the off-seasons for Mardi Himal Trek.

The diurnal temperature can get as high as 25 degrees on a sunny day, even as you gain elevation. The nighttime temperature ranges between 5 and 10 degrees.

The Mardi Himal Trek is open from late September to late November.

Another best season to trek in Mardi Himal Trek or any other low as well as high altitude trek in Nepal. The weather is appropriate, with the diurnal temperature going as high as 20 degrees centigrade and the nighttime temperature going as low as 4 degrees centigrade. During late November, the weather might be a bit colder.

The clear blue sky and vivid mountain panoramas are the next highlight of the autumn months. Furthermore, the trekking trails are safe. However, you won’t get the trekking experience of trekking beside a glowing forest during this season.

Be careful and book early, as the hotels, lodges, and guest houses are more likely to be busy this time of year.

The Mardi Himal Trek has a winter season from December to February.

The winter season has the ability to be difficult for any high-altitude trek. The views during Winter season are marvelous if you can sustain the weather.

The diurnal temperature at higher altitudes on the Mardi Himal Trek might average between 5 and 12 degrees. The nights will be much tougher as the temperature drops to about -5 degrees centigrade.

The heavy snowfall and biting cold might make the trekking experience difficult. However, since the Mardi Himal Trek is not located at such a high altitude as the Everest Base Camp Trek, the challenges are far less.

An experienced, solitude-loving trekker might find December and the rest of this season quite appealing in terms of trekking experiences.

Permit requirements for Mardi Himal trekking

You will need two important permits to trek in the Mardi Himal. If you are going on the Mardi Himal Trek with Team Ram Adventure Pvt. Ltd., we will have this covered for you. Nevertheless, below we have provided you with information regarding permits and the cost.

  • TIMS: Trekkers Information Management System Costs USD 20 contains information about the trekker for safety purposes.

Accommodations and Meals during the Mardi Himal Trek

We, at Team Ram Adventure Pvt. Ltd., try to make this trek as memorable and pleasurable as possible for you. We have arranged for you to stay one night in a hotel in Pokhara with a breakfast plan.

Apart from that, during your trek, you will be accommodated at the best possible teahouses and community lodges. Generally, you will be sharing a room with one of the other trekkers; however, if you prefer a single room, that can be arranged for you at a higher price. The toilet will be shared.

The food that we will serve you will consist of three meals each day during the trek, i.e., breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food during trekking can be anything from Dal Bhat to pasta, noodles, pancakes, momo, bread, chapati, chop suey, boiled potatoes, chicken, etcetera. We will also provide you with seasonal fresh fruit after dinner every evening. Trekking at high altitude requires you to consume a considerable number of calories, so go for typical Nepali Dal Bhat, which is filling, tasty, and healthy.

Other beverages like beer, coffee, tea, and hot lemon are also available but at a hiked-up price. Other facilities like hot water for showering, phone charging, and wi-fi are also available, but you have to pay separately for those.

We maintain a private Jeep for any drives during the trek.
