Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek with children starts with your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport. After a short stay in the Kathmandu valley, featuring a visit to some of the prominent sites, the trip begins with a flight to Pokhara. The exquisite flight provides you with great views of the mountains, rivers, and lush hills. A quick drive from Pokhara takes you to Nayapul, from where you start trekking through the rich forest on flag-stone steps.
The trail takes you past traditional villages, rice fields, and waterfalls as you trek through dense rhododendron and oak forests. One of the major highlights of this trek is the magnificent sunrise over the Himalayan ranges that can be witnessed from Poon Hill. Another highlight of this trek is a stopover in the Gurung village of Ghandruk. The local food, hospitable culture, and the scenic mountain views from Ghandruk are celebrated by all those who come here. From the above distance calculation, it is clear that the total distance covered during the 9-day Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is 550 kilometers. However, the total distance traveled for proper hiking on days 6 and a half is 193 kilometers of proper hiking for an average of 6-7 hours a day. Today you will visit some of the popular sites of Kathmandu valley like the Hindu temple of Pashupatinath and the Buddhist shrines of Boudhanath and Swayambhunath. Your tour guide will give you a brief introduction about all of these places. You can also take the recommendation from the guide and try the local food. Overnight at the hotel.
Today you take a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara. From Pokhara, you take a short drive through Lumle and arrive in Nayapul. Walk for around 20 minutes to reach Birethanti and head towards the main trail. Follow the trail through the forest and pass a large waterfall to reach Ramghai. After lunch in Ramghai, make a ascend to reach Ulleri Overnight at lodge
Cross the stream on a suspension bridge and then ascend the stone staircase to arrive at the Magar settlement of Ulleri. Continue trekking through the rhododendron forest on flag-stone steps to reach Ghorepani. From here, you can get an amazing panorama of Dhaulagiri I (8167m), Annapurna I (8091m), Nilgiri (7061m), Machhapuchhre (6993), and other snow-clad peaks. Overnight at lodge.
It will be an early morning trek today as you do not want to miss the magnificent sunrise view from Poon Hill (3193m). You can also get spectacular views of the snowcapped mountains like Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m), Mt. Annapurna I (8091m), Annapurna South (7219m), Machhapuchhre (6993m), and others. After enjoying the views from Poon Hill, you head down to Ghorepani and have breakfast. Then you walk through the beautiful rhododendron forest until you reach Tadapani. Overnight at lodge.
Today you descend steeply through the dense forests to reach Baise Kharka. You can encounter monkeys and varieties of birds on the way. A steep descent from Baise Kharka will take you to the picturesque village of Ghandruk. Ghandruk is famous for the Gurung community residing here and also for the breathtaking view of Annapurna South (7219m) and Machhapuchhre (6993m). Overnight at lodge.
You leave the beautiful Ghandruk village and gently descend through the stone steps placed carefully on the ridges alongside the lush forest. Continue the trek to Birethanti and have lunch there. A 30-minute walk from here will take you to Nayapul, from where you drive back to Pokhara. Enjoy your evening in the lakeside area. Overnight at a 3-star hotel in Pokhara.
In the morning, you hike to World Peace Stupa, which is situated at the top of Phewa Lake. You can see panoramic views of Dhaulagiri I (8167m), Annapurna I (8091m), Nilgiri (7061m), and Machhapuchhre (6993m) from the top. Then you head downwards and take a boat to cross the beautiful Phewa Lake. In the afternoon, you take the scenic flight back to Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel.
