Explore the Enchanting Manaslu Circuit Trek with Team Ram Adventure

The circular journey around Manaslu is undoubtedly one of the most exceptional Himalayan treks. Nestled between the Annapurna range to the west and the Ganesh Himal to the east, this trek offers a rare chance to experience one of the most graceful 8,000-meter peaks. Despite its grandeur, less than two percent of trekkers venture into this region, meaning even during the high season, the trails remain serene and uncrowded.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek combines remote wilderness, cultural richness, and breathtaking scenery. The trail takes you from the steamy lowlands, adorned with terraced rice and millet fields, to the towering peaks of the Himalayas. Along the way, you’ll traverse through the deep gorges of the Budi Gandaki River, with its striking turquoise waters and cascading waterfalls. Crossing suspension bridges that stretch for incredible lengths and heights adds an extra thrill to the journey. In some cases, you may even navigate semi-submerged rocks when minor bridges are swept away by the annual monsoon rains.

Why Choose the Manaslu Circuit Trek?

1. Remote and Authentic Experience:
Unlike the busier trails of Annapurna or Everest, the Manaslu Circuit offers a more remote and less commercialized trekking experience. This makes it ideal for adventurers seeking solitude and unspoiled beauty.

2. Cultural Immersion:

The trek introduces you to the rural lifestyle of the mountain communities. You’ll pass through charming villages, meet warm-hearted locals, and witness ancient cultural traditions that have been preserved for centuries. The monasteries, prayer flags, and mani walls along the way reflect the deep spiritual roots of this region.

3. Stunning Natural Beauty:

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a feast for nature lovers. The lush forests of oak, rhododendron, and pine are home to diverse Himalayan wildlife, including rare bird species and elusive mammals. As you ascend, the landscape transforms, offering panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and glacial valleys.

Best Seasons for the Manaslu Circuit Trek

The ideal times to trek around Manaslu are during the autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May) seasons. These months offer the most stable weather, clear skies, and moderate temperatures, making them perfect for trekking. While these are considered peak trekking seasons in Nepal, the Manaslu Circuit remains relatively uncrowded, allowing you to enjoy peace and tranquility on the trail.

1. Best Seasons

The two best seasons for the Manaslu Larkya Pass Trek are:

  • Autumn (September to November):
  • Weather: Clear skies, mild temperatures, and excellent visibility.
  • Highlights: The landscapes are lush after the monsoon, and the weather is perfect for trekking.
  • Spring (March to May):
  • Weather: Stable and warm with blooming rhododendrons.
  • Highlights: The forests come alive with vibrant flowers, especially rhododendrons.

Winter (December to February) and Monsoon (June to August) are less ideal due to cold weather at high altitudes and slippery trails during heavy rain.

2. Weather Conditions

  • Lower Altitudes (800–2,000m): Warm and humid, especially at the start of the trek.
  • Mid-Altitudes (2,000–4,000m): Cool and pleasant during the day, chilly at night.
  • High Altitudes (Above 4,000m): Freezing temperatures, especially at Larkya La Pass (5,135m).

3. Views

  • Mountains: Spectacular views of Manaslu (8,163m), Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Annapurna II, and more.
  • Landscapes: Diverse terrains, including lush forests, deep gorges, glacial valleys, and alpine meadows.
  • Pass Views: The Larkya La Pass provides panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and the surrounding Himalayan wilderness.

4. Culture and People

  • Ethnic Communities: The trek takes you through Gurung and Tibetan-influenced villages.
  • Culture:
  • Tibetan Buddhism is the dominant religion, evident in monasteries, prayer wheels, and mani walls.
  • Traditional customs and festivals like Lhosar (Tibetan New Year) are celebrated.
  • Lifestyle: The locals are warm, welcoming, and deeply connected to their traditions and environment.

5. Food

  • Local Dishes: Dal Bhat (lentil soup with rice), Tibetan bread, and momos (dumplings).
  • Variety: While the menu is more limited in remote areas, teahouses often serve noodles, soups, pancakes, and porridge.
  • Drinks: Butter tea, herbal tea, and coffee are common. Staying hydrated is crucial, so safe drinking water is available for refills or purchase.

6. Accommodation

  • Teahouses:
  • Basic yet cozy lodges with shared rooms.
  • Most offer blankets, but carrying a sleeping bag is recommended.
  • Facilities:
  • Lower altitudes have better-equipped teahouses.
  • Higher-altitude teahouses offer basic facilities with limited electricity and running water.

  • To and From the Trailhead:
  • Kathmandu to Soti Khola: 7–8 hours by private jeep or local bus.
  • Dharapani to Kathmandu: 8–9 hours by jeep or bus via Besisahar.

  • The roads are rugged, especially near the trailhead. Private vehicles are more comfortable than local buses.

8. Permits Required

  • Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (MRAP): Required for trekking between Jagat and Samagaun.
  • Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP): For entry into the conservation area.
  • Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): For exiting via Dharapani.
  • Guide Requirement: A registered guide is mandatory due to the restricted area policy.
